The Prestige Apartments, 2 semi-circular 2 storey apartments with a floor area of over 2,000 m2 is a privately owned development. The lower apartments were purchased by the Mineral Resources Authority representing wealthy landowner groups.
Stocks & Partners were commissioned to produce the geotechnical brief for the site and the structural and civil engineering design and documentation of the building project. The building comprised an elevated structure on the sides of a steep hillside supporting the apartment floors and car park beside a deep water pool with cascading water. We were tasked to ensure a high standard of workmanship and finish in order to compliment the high quality architectural finishes imported from Europe and America.
A year after completion, we were again commissioned to construct an additional floor on top of the rear apartment by the same client. The challenge was to ensure the design enabled the continued use of the two floors with zero damage to the extremely costly interior finishes. The optimum designed temporary structure shown modeled in the photograph was built over the building proper to achieve the task with special detailing allowing for strengthening of the existing structure.
